Thank you for supporting children in East Africa through Bread for Good!

Thanks to restaurants, diners and the food industry in New South Wales and Victoria, over $80,000 has been raised through the Bread for Good campaign.

The inaugural campaign wrapped up on Monday October 31, after six weeks of fundraising to help children impacted by the East Africa humanitarian crisis.

The funds raised will make a significant contribution to UNICEF’s work in the region, which includes the provision of therapeutic food, clean water, health services, vaccination campaigns and protection mechanisms for displaced children. There is so much that $80,000 can do, for example:

-  Provide one month's supply of therapeutic food for over 1,770 children;

- Vaccinate 400,000 children against measles; or

- Provide 630 family water kits, helping families collect, store and treat the water they need to survive

The astounding tally is testament to the incredible efforts of all involved, none more so than the top fundraiser Movida Aqui in Melbourne, which raised over $4,800.

Rounding out the top ten were:

1. Movida Aqui ($4,871)
2. Movida ($4,768)
3. Movida Next Door ($2,988)
4. Almond Bar ($2,717)
5. Quay ($2,500)
6. Boathouse ($2,002)
7. Baker's Delight Mosman ($1,757)
8. Bistro Moncur ($1,698)
9. Sepia ($1,605)
10. Tinamba Hotel ($1,439)

While UNICEF is making progress in East Africa, there are still 13 million people – half of them children – in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.

After the success of this year’s campaign, UNICEF is seeking expressions of interest from restaurants that might like to take part in Bread for Good 2012. To express your interest, please click here.
